Welcome to our "Insurance Explained" section. Below are explanations of the main covers provided under the Pet Secure policy.
Which pets are covered?
This Pet insurance policy provides cover for Cats, Pedigree Dogs and Crossbreed Dogs.
There are, however, some exclusions: Pets who are a Sharpei, Pit Bull, American Pit Bull Terrier, Dogo Argentino, Japanese Tosa, Fila Braziliero, or a dog crossed with these Breeds, wolves or wolf hybrid and any animal registered under the Dangerous Dogs Act.
All reasonable costs for treatment of your pet by a vet are covered. This can include dental treatment and complementary treatment. Gold cover includes treatment for behavioural problems, dietary treatment and treatment abroad under the Pet Travel Scheme. The cost of cremation is also included under Gold Cover.
Emergency kennel, cattery and minding fees
This applies to emergency kennel and cattery fees if you or a member of your family is admitted into hospital for emergency treatment as an inpatient. Gold Cover also pays the cost of someone looking after your pet if you are admitted to hospital.
Advertising, rewards and theft
This cover pays for the cost of local advertising and rewards if your pet is lost or stolen. It will also cover the cost of replacement if your pet goes missing.
Accidental death and death from illness
This covers the purchase price of your pet if it has to be put to sleep by a vet following an accident and Gold cover provides the purchase cost of your pet if it has to be put to sleep following an illness.
Holiday cancellation and travel expenses
Holiday cancellation expenses or the cost of cutting your holiday short are covered if you have to return home because your pet has gone missing, falls ill or is injured while you are away. Gold cover also includes travel and accommodation expenses that you incur if your vet recommends that you see another vet for treatment.
Pet Travel Scheme
Gold cover provides quarantine costs, the cost of a replacement health certificate and other emergency expenses abroad, including repeat tick and worm treatment if your departure for the UK is delayed by your carrier.
Third Party Liability
This covers the costs you are legally liable to pay if someone is injured or killed or their property is damaged as a result of an incident involving your pet. The maximum amount payable in respect of any one claim is ï¿½2,000,000 for Gold cover or ï¿½1,000,000 for Silver cover.
